"Direct Access Testing" (DAT) is generally defined as consumer (as opposed to physician) initiated testing of human specimens. DAT is also known as “direct-to-consumer” or “patient-authorized” testing. This is a process whereby an individual is taking control of their health. Where DAT is permitted, it is commonly ordered by an individual without a prior consultation with a physician or a physician’s request for testing.

Customers can “pick and choose” which test they would like performed. In addition, customers should consult with a physician regarding the results of DAT testing. Only a licensed medical professional is able to accurately interpret some of the lab results. Holmes Mobile Lab Services does not treat or diagnose, only a physician or other healthcare provider can do this.
